SURVEYOR REPLACES MAN OF STEELE
On the week that Britain took
over the Presidency of the European, Union Norwood Steele
handed over the Presidency of the Rotary Club of Donaghadee to Peter Irwin. Prior to the handover ceremony
President Norwood welcomed Honorary members John Stevenson and Norman Ferguson
to the meeting along with Trevor Moffet (Newtownards) Ronnie Porter (Belfast).
He also welcomed Kay du Toit from Cape Town. In his farewell address Norwood
said a big thank you to all the council members, service chairpersons and
officers of the club. He concluded his remarks by saying that a small club can
only be successful with the good work of all the members. The chain of office was then
handed over to President Peter Irwin. Peter looked resplendent in his salmon
pink shirt, which was the subject of much comment by the fashion conscious
members of the club. The new President then thanked Past President Norwood for
his kind words and stated that he was looking forward to his year in office. His
first duty was to hand on the badge of office to Vice President Mark Brooks. Peter confessed to a serious
piece of bad planning. He stated he did not realise that when he was married 18
years ago that his wedding anniversary would fall on the night he became President
of Donaghadee Rotary Club and that he would have to forgo any celebration with
his wife on that evening. Peter then presented Kay du Toit from the Rotary Club of Kirstenbosh District 9350 CapeTown with a Donaghadee Club Banner. Kay brought greetings from her club President .She went on to describe how her club every year organise Carols by Candlelight. This takes place over 4 nights and is a magical evening when candles are lit as the sun goes down. All one can see are candles like fireflies. This event is used to raise funds for Rotary for health and community welfare in Cape Town. |
