SANTA
PRESENTS CHEQUE TO R.N.L.I.
On each of the four weekends on the run up to Christmas Les Jones the President of Donaghadee Rotary Club donned his Santa suit and along with a relay of helpers from the club braved the elements to distribute gifts to children at “The Donaghadee Garden Centre” Stockbridge Road. The Garden Centre supplied the gifts and the children’s parents and grandparents made donations to Donaghadee Lifeboat Station. Thanks
to their generosity a staggering £1450 was collected. At this weeks meeting of Donaghadee Rotary Club held at “The Stables” Groomsport President Les and Colin Reddick the manager of The Garden Centre presented a cheque for the £1450 to representatives of the R.N.L.I. Alan
Couser, John McAuley and Philip McNamara the coxswain of Donaghadee lifeboat.
They were given the specific instruction that the money had to go to the
Donaghadee lifeboat station. In his acceptance of the cheque John McAuley pointed out that over the last two years there had been a decline in donations to R.N.L.I. He said the organisation had now moved into the top level of fund raising, as they required a £100,000,000 reserve to provide services for 12 months. It was hoped with future fund raising to establish a reserve to cover 14 to 15 months. He
explained that expenditure on expansion was being cut back but that life saving
would not be affected. He went on to explain that the donation from the Rotary
club was therefore most welcome. |
