ROTARY HANDOVER
Thursday 1.7.2010. was the official handover night at The Rotary Club of Donaghadee. Outgoing President Mike Camlin handed over the chain of office to the incoming president Richard Caldwell. In his farewell address as President, Mike thanked everyone on his team and all the members for rallying round during his year in office. He said that Richard would make a good President because of his close involvement in all club matters. He wished him a great Presidential year. Mike then mentioned that Richard had dropped him in it when he asked him to be his Vice President. After Mike accepted Richard then announced that he could not be president that year and told Mike that he had now become President. Richard congratulated Mike on a very successful year and thanked him for all his hard work over the year. From the pink night in November through to Mike and Tim constructing Santa’s Grotto for Xmas, the final emergence of the elusive daffodils to Presidents night at La Mon, the fire fighting training at Four Road Ends and a very successful Barbecue just a couple of weeks ago. All these events and many more have made a very enjoyable year. He continued by saying that he should have been standing here this time last year, but due to his cunning Colditz like strategy and his escape plan which worked perfectly he dropped Mike right in it. Since then he has been trying to come up with a suitable extraction plan for this year. He has racked his brain for almost 12 months without success. In a more serious note Richard then thanked all the members of the club for electing him as President. He added that it was a proud moment to lead the club as the 17th President. He then thanked Peter Irwin for introducing him to Rotary and the club. Richard said that he was looking forward to the coming Rotary year and mentioned many forthcoming events. He added that these events just don’t happen themselves and he hoped that all the members will continue to help with the events as in previous years. He concluded by saying that it is only with the support of the members and their enthusiasm that we will be able to achieve all that we have set out to do this year. Richard then introduced his team for the incoming year. |
