ROTARY CLUB HANDOVER 2011
Thursday the 30th June marked the end of the year and the beginning of the new Rotary year for the members of The Rotary Club of Donaghadee. The outgoing president Richard Caldwell began his farewell address by thanking all who had assisted him throughout the year in particular the President Elect. He said that although the year had been busy, it had been a successful one. We tried some new things, most of which came off, one or two were disappointing but – nothing ventured nothing gained. We maintained the successful tried and trusted regular events. Our fundraising this year raised over £16,000 distributed over a wide variety of international and national charities and we have forged new links with local groups. Richard ended his address by saying "now its over I want you all to know what an honour it has been for me to preside over this club for the past 12 months. The Rotary Club of Donaghadee has an enthusiastic and supportive membership and I have been proud to be able to take it forward during its 17th year". Richard then introduced the new President David Cochrane, describing him as a man who re-joined the club some four years ago, since then ,he has worked tirelessly in all aspects of the club and someone who will uphold all the Rotary ideals and lead the club in an exemplary manner in the forthcoming year. President David in his acceptance address said that it was an honour to become President of this fine club for the incoming year and that he would do his best for The Rotary Club of Donaghadee. He then went on to thank Past President Richard for all his hard work over the past 3 years. He continued by saying that he would like to continue with some of the usual activities as well as the new initiatives such as the Tree of Hope and Rotary does the Ritz. David then thanked the outgoing Committee Chairs and Office Bearers for their help and support and the new members of his crew for agreeing to help this year. David then introduced Susan Morrison as the President Elect. |
