CHRISTMAS
In the run up to Christmas its been a case of shoulders to the Rotary wheel for the members of Donaghadee Rotary Club. The members have been living up to the Rotary motto of Service Before Self as they acted as Santa and Santa’s helpers at The Donaghadee Garden Centre and Dickson’s Garden Centre during the past two weekends and again next weekend Last weekend they were also involved in selling ballot
tickets for Men Against Cancer at B and Q Holywood Exchange. On Friday 10th Dec
Hazel Steele wife of President Norwood hosted a charity dinner at her home
attended by the member’s wives. The President, Vice President Peter Irwin and
other Rotarians acted a chauffeurs and waiters at the extravaganza. On Sunday 12th Dec
the club combined with Donaghadee Male Voice Choir for the now annual carol service in Donaghadee Parish Church. The Rector Rev Ian R Gamble conducted the
service. The offering raised £500, which was donated by the Rotarians to Rev
Gambles Afghanistan charity appeal. On Tuesday 14th Dec
some 90-shoe boxes filled by the club members and their friends were dispatched via The Rotary Shoe Box Scheme to Eastern Europe. Since 1994 the
scheme has sent tens of thousands of shoeboxes filled with toys make-up sports
-wear and household articles to needy children and families in Eastern
Europe.
Later that evening thanks again to the generosity of Mark Brooks the members entertained Senior Citizens to a Christmas Dinner at Bow Bells.
On Thursday evening 16th
Dec the members hope to enjoy their own Christmas Dinner at their weekly venue
The Stables Groomsport .The members will then set out on their annual tour of
the local hostelries of Donaghadee for fellowship and Christmas cheer. Last week the members were pleased to welcome Founder President Jack McKeag back to the club after his spell in hospital. Jack thanked all those who had enquired after his health and those who had visited him in hospital. |
