ROTARY APPEALS TO NORTH DOWN TO HELP RAISE £100,000 THIS CHRISTMAS
The President of Donaghadee Rotary Club, Richard Caldwell, has appealed to the people of North Down to dig deep this year and support the ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign, which is once again being run in partnership with Tesco. The campaign, which will run from 12th – 22nd December, aims to raise as much money as possible for two local children’s charities – CLIC Sargent and the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. Following the success of last year’s campaign, when one Rotary Club in Northern Ireland raised over £20,000 at a local Tesco store, the organisation has this year set an ambitious target of £100,000. The ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign will see a series of 25ft Christmas trees erected at a number of Tesco stores across the province, including the Springhill store in Bangor. Customers at the store will be invited to support one of the two nominated charities by purchasing the relevant charity ribbon, which will then be attached to the tree by representatives from the local club. Mr Caldwell said: "We have decided to link this campaign to the Tesco Charity of the Year - CLIC Sargent, the other charity being the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. They are both local charities for children suffering from cancer. "Even in times of recession there are still children with cancer trying to cope with this disease and they need all the help these charities can give them. Just think especially at this time of the year, coming up to Christmas there are children and their families out there who need us to give. "The people of North Down have always been very generous when it comes to supporting local charities and I am sure they will also be on this occasion." Sharon McClements, community champion at Tesco Springhill, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Donaghadee Rotary Club in this year’s ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign. “Just like Rotary, Tesco is very much at the heart of the local community. We strive to give as much as possible back to the local community and people in need through our annual charity collections, activities organised by the dedicated community champions in each store and larger campaigns such as this. “The festive season is our busiest time of year, when we will see thousands of shoppers come through our doors everyday. I would appeal to them to give generously to this fantastic cause and really make a difference this Christmas.” You can donate to the ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign at Tesco Springhill by purchasing a ribbon for the Christmas tree from Sunday 12th – Wednesday 22nd December. |
