ROTARIANS UNITE
On that momentous day for Northern Ireland when Dr Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams finally sat down together on 26 March 2007, another less publicised coming together took place. This was a joint meeting of the Rotary Clubs in the North Down area. The meeting that took place in the Crawfordsburn Inn was organised and attended by Donaghadee Rotary club President Mark Brooks. The Presidents of Bangor John Gray, Comber Duggie Anderson, and Newtownards Alan Shannon, attended along with club members from all the clubs in the North Down area. Also in attendance were District Governor Howard Caskie, Assistant Governor John Dawson, and District Governor Elect Ray Crosgrave. Ray Crosgrave told the assembled audience about the arrangements for the forthcoming District Conference in Cork. The guest speaker was Brian Rowan the Security Editor for the B.B.C. in Northern Ireland. Brian gave an enlightening talk on his work with the B.B.C. and the current state of play regarding politics in N.I. Resulting from the success of the evening it is hoped that this joint meeting will again become an annual event.
