ROTARIANS TAKE TO LIFEBOATThe annual lifeboat trip by the members of Donaghadee Rotary Club is the rock on which the new Presidents organisational abilities sometimes perish. This year the event took place after only two postponements. The postponements were due to the vagaries of the weather and the lifeboat crew being involved in sea rescues. All augers well for President Paul Leathem’s year in office. The event took place on Thursday 17.7.08. prior to the weekly meeting. Nine intrepid club members including our two lady members boarded the RNLB Dora Foster McDougal in Donaghadee Harbour. This vessel has replaced Donaghadee’s own lifeboat while it is being re-fitted. The party were taken for an exhilarating trip around the Copeland Islands. The crewmembers explained the various navigational aids on board and pointed out where some of their recent rescues had taken place. The club members would like to thank the crew for taking them on the trip. The nine sailors then joined the rest of the landlubbers in the club for the weekly meeting held this week in Pier 36. |
