ROTARIANS PARTICIPATE IN LIFEBOAT FESTIVAL
Saturday 7th August 2010 saw the start of The Donaghadee Lifeboat Centenary Festival. As part of the festival the members of The Rotary Club of Donaghadee organised a walking family treasure hunt and BBQ on behalf of the Lifeboat. 37 teams participated in the event on a beautiful evening. After the treasure hunt the 137 competitors enjoyed a BBQ, refreshments and music in the Sailing Club. The Miskimmin family from Donaghadee were declared the winners and were presented with a framed picture of the Donaghadee Lifeboat. On Saturday 14th Captain Pugwash cajoled and press ganged 5 of the more athletic (or more accurately) less decrepit members of the club to join him in making up a 6-man crew for the Lifeboat Raft Race. The team excelled their expectations by coming 4th in a large field of youthful competitors. Their efforts were spurred on when they overheard the Rugby Club entry shout “Look out here come the old men”. At the end of the race a mutinous crewmember from the Rotary Club of Donaghadee raft, unceremoniously dumped all his fellow crewmembers in the sea. Competitors and spectators alike enjoyed the entire event. |
