President David Cochrane 2011-2012

Welcome to our web site.

I have the honour of taking on the role of President of the Rotary Club of Donaghadee for this year. With the support of our club I hope to enhance the profile of our club in Donaghadee.

The theme for this Rotary Year is “Reach within to Embrace Humanity” - "In order to achieve anything in this world, a person has to use all the resources they can draw on. And the only place to start is with ourselves and within ourselves,"

Rotary is divided into 5 avenues of service

They are Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service and New Generations Service. Our club will be active in each of the five Avenues of Service.

·        Club Service requires members to act in a way to strengthen fellowship and help the club to function successfully.

·        Vocational Service encourages club members to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards by conducting    themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary’s principles. Mock Interviews for school leavers being one of the most important contributions our club provides

·        Community Service involves projects that club members initiate, sometimes in conjunction with others, to improve the quality of life of people who live in our club’s locality. Christmas Hamper donation, annual Carol Service, Santa’s Grotto, Primary School Reading and the Community Service Award are but a few of the undertakings of this Service

·        World Community (International Service) expands Rotary's humanitarian efforts around the globe and helps to promote world understanding. The charities that we shall be supporting this year are Shelterbox, Christina  Noble Children’s Foundation, Sightsavers and Life Straw

·        New Generations Service engages youth and young adults in leadership development activities, involvement in international service and community projects, and also with exchange programmes which are intended to foster cultural understanding and world peace. The various programmes include Youth Leadership Competition, Youth Exchange, Young Chef / Young Writer /Young Photographer

Rotary Foundation

This enables Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. This is achieved through the Annual Programmes Fund, Ambassadorial Scholarships and the Group Study Exchange Programme

Membership

Joining Rotary gives you the chance to do something really worthwhile. Rotary Members benefit from being part of an internationally recognised organisation continually ensuring your work in helping local and overseas communities is well organised, productive and rewarding.

Our district Governor, Barney Callaghan said: “can you imagine the positive effect it would have on membership if only 500 of us in District 1160 succeeded in bringing in a new member and 2000 of us had no luck with our inviting endeavours; we would have 500 new Rotarians in our wonderful District”

Our club will strive to identify new members, bring them to a meeting or involve them in a local community project or event.

If you feel that you have something to contribute, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our club using the contact details shown on this page.

I look forward to welcoming you to a club which holds the principles of Fun, Fellowship and Fund Raising close to its heart.
