MAN
OF STEEL REPLACES TECHNAPHOBE
On Thursday 8th July out going president Les Jones handed over the presidency of Donaghadee Rotary Club to the incoming President Norwood Steel. In his handover address Les stated that he had managed to get through the year without a computer, web site, mobile phone or getting a haircut. Two members had said at the start of his year in office that he would not last 2 minutes without having those items. He continued by saying “I am pleased that I did it”. At this point he was interrupted by the secretary in true Donaghadee Rotary fashion who said that without the use of computers etc by others then he (Les) would not be the most photographed person in Donaghadee with his picture in the press almost every week. Les then said that on looking
back he had achieved all he had hoped to achieve. His regret was that the club
didn’t have one or two events that had nothing to do with raising money. He then thanked council and the members for their support throughout his year in office. Norwood Steel was then initiated
as president with Peter Irwin as vice president. Norwood in his address said that
he considered it to be an honour to be president of Donaghadee Rotary Club and
would like to continue the tradition of fun, liveliness and enjoyment that is
part of Donaghadee Rotary Club. He said that as far as the fun
and fund raising had gone in the past year if he could do half as well as Les he
would be content. The members of The Alternative Rotary were delighted that the new president joined them at their meeting at the Stables bar after the main proceedings. The members of this club within a club liberally toasted his initiation.
