THE LIGHTHOUSE TRUST ANNUAL OUTING
On one of the sunniest days in August this year the members of Donaghadee Rotary Club escorted the pupils, parents, conductors, helpers and friends of the Lighthouse Summer School on their seventh annual trip to the Copeland Islands. The Lighthouse Summer School takes place in Donaghadee during the months of July and August. It is organised for the benefit of children suffering from cerebral palsy. The children benefit from instruction by conductors trained at the Peto Institute in Hungary. Whilst it was a bright warm sunny day before the party set sail a strong wind blew up before departure. A well-known local seafarer described the sea as being a bit splashy. This description was later challenged by the macho athletic Rotarian who had organised the trip, when he turned a whiter shade of pale, due to the pitching and tossing of the boat. This buffeting of the boat only added to the enjoyment experienced by the children. The club president Garth who was watching events from the harbour became concerned when he saw the lifeboat put out to sea. Fortunately it was not being called out to rescue his club members or their guests. After the voyage the entire party adjourned to Pier 36 for a meal that was enjoyed by all. The Rotary Club members would like to thank Quinton Nelson for making his boat “The Brothers” available for the trip and Denis and Margaret Waterworth and their staff for looking after the group so well in their restaurant Pier 36. |
