THE LIGHTHOUSE SCHOOL TRIP TO THE COPELAND ISLANDS.

.

On Wednesday 13th August 2008 the members of Donaghadee Rotary Club took the children, parents and conductors from The Lighthouse Summer School on what has now become their annual trip to The Copeland Islands.

The Lighthouse Summer School takes place during July and August in Donaghadee. It is organised for children with cerebral palsy, who benefit from instruction by conductors trained at the Peto Institute in Hungary. The parents and family members stay in Donaghadee while the children attend the school.

Despite the previous days having been very wet the trip fortunately took place during a short dry period. The party were taken to the Copeland Islands on board “The Brothers” a boat well known to visitors to Donaghadee. The children were given a view of the wild life on and around the islands. They saw a colony of Grey seals basking on the rocks and some of the seals even swam over to the boat. After the trip the party were treated to a meal in Pier 36.

The Rotary Club would like to thank Quinton Nelson for making his boat “The Brothers” available for the trip and Denis and Margaret Waterworth and their staff for looking after the party in their restaurant Pier 36.
