Guests From Two Continents Attend Donaghadee Rotary Club

Donaghadee Rotarians had two guests at last weeks club meeting held at their now regular venue The Stables Groomsport.

One of the guests Brian Gamble was a surprise visitor who had travelled from his home in Harare Dawn Zimbabwe to Northern Ireland. Brian exchanged banners with President Les Jones, as did the guest speaker Rebecca Shea.

Rebecca is an ambassadorial scholar from Sterling Heights a suburb of Detroit. Rebecca in her talk explained that she is completing a Masters Degree in Ethnic Conflict at Queens University. She described Detroit as being the most segregated town in the U.S.A. She went on to explain how part of her time is taken up with work as a classroom assistant. Rebecca also pointed out that she is involved with P.R. work for the Wish Makers Foundation a charity that grants wishes to terminally ill children.

President Les thanked her for her talk and hoped that she would enjoy the rest of her stay in Northern Ireland.

On Friday night the club members held their annual quiz night at Donaghadee Rugby Club. The quiz was won for the second year in succession by Paul Leathem ’s team The Big Dogs. Peter Irwin Master at Arms in his own inimitable fashion claimed that no one liked a smart ass and promptly fined the team.

This Friday the Presidents Ball is being held in the Marine Court Bangor and the following day the members will be taking part in the second annual Stroke Awareness Day in Donaghadee.
