DONAGHADEE BANKER REPLACED
On Thursday 26.6.08. President Garth Arnold, a well-known banker was replaced as President of Donaghadee Rotary club. Nothing to do with the current credit crunch, his year in office had come to an end. Prior to the handover to incoming President Paul Leathem, Garth said a few words. “ It does not seem like twelve months when the previous president Mark Brooks and I were standing here starting a similar handover. As the saying goes "time flies when you are enjoying yourself". I have really enjoyed myself and that is down to you all and the great fellowship we all have here which is very special and always talked about. We have had another excellent year for our charities, donating in the region of £9000. Can I say a big thank you to my Team. Secretary Dermot,Treasurer Peter, Incoming President Paul, Immediate Past President Mark. Chairs PP John; Rotarians Michael and Susan; Richard; Trevor and Betty; Harris. Council: PP Alistair; PP Bill and Rotarian Myles. Can I take this opportunity to wish Incoming President Paul and his Team the very best for the ensuing year” Garth then presented Paul with his chain of office, after which Paul congratulated him on a successful year in office. After presenting President Elect Richard Caldwell with his chain of office Paul thanked the members for electing him as President and added that he was very proud to be the 15th President of the club. Paul said that he was pleased with the healthy state of the club, the increasing membership, and the settled venue. He added that his aims for the year included continuing with existing projects and looking for new community projects. Developing relationships with other clubs in the North Down Area, and having a varied and interesting programme. He stated that it was important to retain the fellowship and fun for which the club was renowned. He appealed for the continuing support of all the members for potential projects, events, outings and speakers. President Paul then introduced his team for the incoming year: - President Elect Richard, Secretary Dermot, Treasurer Peter, Council members-Robert, Mike, David and Susan.
