DISTRICT
GOVERNOR ADDRESSES DONAGHADEE ROTARY CLUB
At the start of last
weeks meeting of Donaghadee Rotary Club held in the Stables Groomsport President
Norwood Steel informed members that £1000 had been forwarded to the Sudan
Relief Appeal. He pointed out that the club, which has 23 members, had raised £13500
for charity last year. President Norwood
then introduced District Governor Crawford Wilson from Antrim Rotary Club. The District
Governor expressed his delight at being back with Donaghadee Rotary Club after 4
years. He mentioned that the club hadn’t changed much during that time as the
banter was good, the craic was good, the fellowship good and the wine at the bar
was good, but unfortunately he had to drive home. He emphasised that
this was a great year to be in Rotary being its centenary year and that he was
privileged to be District Governor for District 1160.He then described his
training in Anaheim as a most wonderful experience and how it had broadened his
outlook towards the Rotary family. He then outlined his
progress through Rotary to becoming District Governor. He informed the club
members that he had visited 27 clubs since taking up office in July. He
emphasised the importance of the family of Rotary and how much it means to him
personally. He then spoke in
detail about: - Foundation, Membership, Retention, Extension, Ethics, and
Communications within Rotary. He said that he was delighted to have “Men
Against Cancer” as his chosen charity. He ended his address by thanking the club for their invitation and supplying his favourite meal. He asked all present to enjoy Rotary and to apply the 4-way test to things we think, say or do that is 1 Is it the Truth? 2 Is it Fair to all concerned? 3 Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships? 4 Will it be
Beneficial to all concerned? President (It is regretted that due to the fact that the club photographer forgot his camera, no photograph of this visit is available!) |
