BANKER FORECLOSES ON BROOKS

Like all dictators who are overthrown by the rule of democracy, so too was Emperor Mark Brooks. On 19.7.07 control of his club was finally given back to the members when the incoming President Garth Arnold, well known in banking circles, replaced him. All the members agreed that Mark will be a hard act to follow as he more than fulfilled his promise to take the club out and about during his year in office, and make things more interesting. Some of the members jokingly suggested that after Mark’s year in office they needed a rest. That said, all members agreed that the club enjoyed great fellowship under his leadership and he was an example of Rotary’s motto “Service Before Self”.

On being presented with his chain of office Garth thanked Mark for his hard work throughout the year and suggested that Mark might become a peace envoy for Donaghadee.

Garth then continued by saying that during his year in office he will place a lot of emphasis on this year’s theme “Rotary Shares” He said that he was very keen to promote the family of Rotary and to emphasise this point he had brought his wife Anne and two children Grace and Ross along with him this evening.

Garth then quoted International President Wilfred J Wilkinson when he said, “Rotary allows ordinary people to do extraordinary things”. Garth hoped that the club would continue to enjoy fellowship and friendship whilst promoting and actioning the necessary components of this years theme.

President Elect Paul Leathem was then presented with his chain of office.
