GLOBE TROTTING CYCLISTS ARRIVE IN DONAGHADEE
Saturday 2nd July 2011 saw the arrival of globe trotting cyclists Huw and Carolyn Thomas in Donaghadee. Accompanied by cyclists from North Down Cycle Club they were met and welcomed by members of local Rotary Clubs and the owner of Pier 36 Dennis Waterworth. Dennis had generously agreed to give Huw and Carolyn free overnight accommodation. The Rotary Clubs of Donaghadee, Bangor and North Down presented the two cyclists with a cheque for £600 for Shelter Box. On their arrival the two cyclists had completed 9,970 miles of a 10,000-mile journey in aid of the disaster relief charity Shelter Box. They left the UK last August and have ridden across North America, New Zealand, Australia and several European countries, linking with shelter Box affiliates in each country they’ve visited. On Sunday morning they set off for Newcastle en route to Dublin. |
