At Thursday’s meeting 17.6.04,
which was attended by the members wives President Les presented the Rotary
Community Service Award to this year’s recipient Sam Crothers. The Kirk
Session of 1st Donaghadee Presbyterian Church nominated Mr Crothers.
Sam, a sprightly 82 year old, is a great youth leader and has dedicated
his life to the Boys Brigade. He joined the Life Boys at the tender age of 9 and
has been associated with the organisation ever since. He has held all ranks in
the Brigade and is now a Honorary Vice President of the Belfast Battalion and
deeply involved with the Old Boys Association. So dedicated was he to 1st
Donaghadee BB Company that he continued to take drill practice on crutches
during the winter of 2002/2003 after a hip replacement. He was a member of Agnes
St Silver Band and Secretary of Albert Foundry Athletic Club. He is also a
regular visitor to Edgewater Nursing Home.
