ROTARIANS DISTRIBUTE MONEY

.

During the 2010-11 Rotary year members of The Rotary Club of Donaghadee organised a number of events to raise money for local charities. At a Partners evening held in The Moat Inn on 29 September 2011 the money was distributed to representatives from the following good causes: -

1.FASA a charity that provides specialised services in relation to substance abuse, suicide and self-harm, providing help for individuals, families and communities.

2.Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. Providing practical, emotional and financial support for children, teenagers, young adults and their families.

3.Drop In Centre Donaghadee run by Youth For Christ for the young folk of Donaghadee.

4.Dystonia Society. A charity set up to help people suffering with sustained muscle contractions causing twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures.

5.N. I. CHILDREN TO LAPLAND TRUST. A charity that takes terminally ill, long term ill and deserving children to see Santa in Lapland.

Some £2120 was distributed to these worthy causes.

Club President David Cochrane presented the cheques after a meal and the charity representatives thanked the club members.

Rotarian Billy Hamilton then donned his Historical Society hat and gave an interesting presentation on the history of Donaghadee and Portpatrick harbours. He traced the development and decline of the harbours from the time of the Plantation to the presentation day. He emphasised that at one time the passage between Portpatrick and Donaghadee was the main route between London and Dublin.

He was thanked for his presentation by the club President.
